My Breastfeeding Badges of Honor

Pain, pain, go away...

11:05:00 AM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »
I am in so much pain it's unreal. It hurts to breathe. It hurts to blink. I woke up this morning praying to die before I even tried to move because I knew it was going to hurt so badly.

I finally finished my cousin's baby shower invitations. It's nice to not have anything more than the boys to worry about right now. Since I've basically given up on worrying about the state of my house. My new "project" is to put together these "handbooks" for the boys. One for Gavin and one for Elliott Richard. That way when someone babysits them they will have all the necessary information. Plus I'm trying to figure out ways to save money and get us out of this finacial hole we've dug for ourselves. Anything to keep my mind busy and off the pain at this point will work just fine.

Doctors, baby showers and life in general..forget about it.

I have HAD IT!

I talked to my insurance company and they informed me that what the neuro did was unethical. Great, that helps. Then they told me to go to the Cleveland Clinic, which is a 3 hour drive with light traffic and who only knows how long the wait to actually be seen would be. When Rob pointed out that their policy states they have to find me a doctor close to home they said it could take months. MONTHS! It's been months. I'm tired of waiting months. I'm tired of hurting and suffering. I'm sick of going to bed praying to die just so the pain will stop. I just want a doctor to help me. Is that really and truly so much to ask for?

Shelby, other wise known as the beagle from Hell, is driving me crazy. Gavin's cat, Sunny, is driving us all batty. I've threatened to feed Sunny to Shelby and then take Shelby to a chinese place nearby. Rob thinks I'm kidding. I'm not. One day they will both be gone and only I will know where they went.

My cousin is pregnant. I love pregnant women. I love being pregnant. I love my pregnant cousin. What I do not love right now is her mother, her baby shower, or these damn invitations I have been trying to make for the past 2-3 months. I've been chasing my aunt for those 2-3 months begging for guests lists, the date and time of the shower, the location of the damn shower. And she was always too busy - planning other parties, saving stray cats etc - to get me the info. So this morning she calls me and leaves me a voice mail about how she has 15 mintues to go over those things with me RIGHT THEN. To that I say - NO WAY JOSE!! I've been stressing myself out, busting my butt and going crazy for months over these invites (because MY name is on them as having made them) and she thinks she's going to get an attitude with me?! Think again.

Calling all doctors...Please go take a flying leap!

Found a new neurologist. Spent the last week and a half getting all the records together that he wanted. Apparently Rob and I asked too many questions and I have been "fired" as his patient. He told me in no uncertain terms to either shut up or go somewhere else. Gee, good thing he wasn't talking to a patient with trust issues, huh? *sigh*

He wants to cut my migraine preventative in half but leave me high and dry without anything for the migraines that will cause. Then I had to wait 5 days before I was permitted to start my sleeping meds. All the while suffering with migraines and pain. We asked why - which we felt was a legitimate question - he told me where to go. Or rather, where not to go.

I'm in so much pain I hardly move. I don't sleep. I crash coarse weaned Elliott Richard so I could take this jerks meds and now he's telling to shove off because I asked questions? Is that even legal? Or ethical?

I got Harvest Moon for my DS the other day. I'm confused. I'm embarassed by this fact and chalking it up to no sleep, messed up meds, and too much pain. Anyone have any HM tips?

I'm depressed beyond words right now. This jerk doc was my last chance. Now I'm about ready to throw in the towel and just keep suffering...what's the difference right? I just felt the need to ramble a bit. Maybe my friends will feel pitty for me...my doctor sure couldn't care less. *sob*

All I want for Christmas...

is to be accepted for me.

I have two children. Whom I parent to the best of my ability. Love to death. Would move heaven and Earth for.

I have two sisters. One of which who refuses to acknowledge I exsist. The other who loves me and at the moment seems to be the only person who truly understands me. (Thank God for her!)

My therapist says I'm "in my infinite loop of crap". Fine whatever. I live in my infinite loop of crap. It's warm. It's comfortable. I've been here a long time. I was born and raised here. Why not spend my free time here as well?

All I want to know is how would anyone else feel. Five years ago my grandmother died and I lost a major piece of my life, of my identity. Twenty-six (almost twenty-seven) years ago my birth mother gave me up and wrote me off as gone forever (oops) - therefore no longer her problem. I have no idea if my birth father even knows I exsist.

Hi my name is Lizze. Welcome to my pity party...

Happy Belated Mother's Day to me. Rob traded in his Wii because Gavin couldn't handle it. (Gavin was trying to play the other day. Elliott Richard touched his foot - just touched it. Gavin kicked him in the chest for touching his foot.) Rob bought me a pink DS with giftcards he got. (Who would have thought *I* would ever own a pink anything. lol) He got me 4 games:
"Trace Memory" ~ an RPG-esq type game where you are a 13 going on 14 yr old girl looking for her father whom she believed dead. Pretty cool. A thinking game. Not to be played with a migraine. Already beat it.

"Cooking MaMa" ~ a cheesey cooking game with Japanimation style animation. Not bad. A fairly brain-dead game. Very little thinking involved. I can play with a migraine. Already beat it.

"Zoo Tycoon" ~ simulation style game where you set up and run your own zoo. Very cheesey. Not that entertaining. Some of the animation is much too small. Not really digging it.
Battery dying - will finish later.

Worst migriane ever and an update...warning: it's LONG!

I'm prone to migraines anyway. I've had them for the past 7 years. But the migraines I've had yesterday and today have put the past 7 years to shame. My eyes feel like they are on fire. My brain literally feels as if someone is trying to cut it in two pieces - in the slowest and most painful manner possible. I'm trying desperately to find a neurologist. The few who take my insurance either aren't accepting new patients or have made the decision to stop taking my insurance so they don't do me any good anyway. I took my Darvocet. My head still hurts. Only now my head feel disconnected from my body. So I still have the pain only it feels like it's not quite there - if that makes any sense at all.

Nick isn't taking this whole parenting, "let's all get along" thing seriously. He and his mother showed up at Gavin's therapy appt two weeks ago because Nick thought that he was going to take part in all of Gavin's therapy sessions from now on. What good does that do for Gavin?! Furthermore, I had told Gavin's therapist that if Nick got to come to a session or two with Gavin it would be after Nick and I had met face-to-face with the therapist. So I showed up with Rob and Gavin for Gavin's therapy appt and they were both there. I had to spend 20 mins with them while Gavin become increasingly more irrate and pissed off because they wouldn't leave. Finally I told them (literally) "could you please just get your booties back in your car and go home because Gavin is very upset and he needs this appt by himself. He needs his routine. And you being here is NOT part of his routine." They agreed. Nick said that he couldn't meet me in the morning because he "can't get up before 2pm, you know that Lizze". And his mother said "if you make him meet you in the morning, I'll have to wake him up and bring him here". I told her that he's supposed to be an adult and he should get himself up and to the appt because she cannot come with him. Well Gavin's therapist called today with the appt - May 23rd at 11 in the morning! lmao She said that if he wants to play dad then he needs to be an adult and get with the program. As of right now, the plan is that he needs to come up here by himself. He needs to get up, get ready, get in the car, drive up here alone, meet with me, and drive home alone. The therapist and I agree that even if psycho-mom drives him up here and drops him at the therapist's office for the appt, I won't meet with him. No one drives me to my appts. No one keeps me company everywhere I go. This is about being an adult and taking responsibility for life. I've been taking responsibility for both of us for 7 years. He claims he's sober - so it's time to start acting like the rest of us. Welcome to the real world. It sucks.

Gavin's psychiatrist is keeping a close eye on Gavin for signs of psychosis. He's torn between whether Gavin has had a psychotic break or his behaviors are a part of his Autism. I took Gavin to see his Developmental Neurologist today and he wants Gavin to have an EEG to rule out seizures as the cause of Gavin loosing time. The trick is that since Gavin doesn't sleep, they will have to give him something to make him sleep in order to get the test done. Just once I would like things to be simple!

It's been a while...

A few weeks ago I was trying to turn on my laptop and couldn't get the power button to work. I figured I was doing something wrong - don't know what but how does a power button break? Well Rob tells me it's broken and since my warranty is almost up I need to send it in for service but I should have it back by the end of the week. They fix the power button and call Rob because they found a bunch of other stuff that was wrong. So two weeks later I *finally* have it back! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY! I was going crazy without my internet. And that is why I've been MIA...

So much has happened in two weeks it's insane.

Tuesday April 24th I was supposed to have another pow-wow with Nick and Pam, however, Elliott Richard decided he had other plans. He woke up that morning with a rash that is common with meningitis. So while I was with my shrink prepping for the pow-wow Rob took Elliott Richard to the pediatrician where they were held "hostage" while emergency bloodwork was run to look for an infection. At that point the ped said that we had two options: go home and keep an eye on him or allow the ped to admit Elliott Richard to the hospital for observation. Rob and I went with the hospital option. So the pow-wow was between Gavin's shrink, Nick and Pam while Rob, Elliott Richard and I were at the hospital. Rob and I were a nervous wreck. Elliott Richard had a blast and a half! lol After 8 or 9 hours at the hospital, they sent us home because he didn't have meningitis. Their best guess was that the rash was a left over from the flu and MMR reaction from the week before. He's fine now though. :)

For those of you who know anything about our legal situation. The Hell it's been for us. The nightmarish roller coaster for the past 5 or 6 years...seems to finally be over. We went to court on April 26th. Rob, Nick, Pam, and myself all agreed to get along and do what is in the best interest of Gavin. So at least for now, the legal nightmare is over. Done. Fini. End of story. I wonder how long this will last.

Happy early Mother's Day to me. Rob and I went to a neighborhood watch meeting tonight and learned that a begger who has been in the neighborhood has been letting himself into people's homes!!!! At that point, Rob and I decided that we needed a dog. We had a dog, Hermione. She was a HUGE 100 pound black lab that we simply didn't have the room for. Plus when we found her another home we didn't realize that the legal disaster may be coming to an end and it was draining us. I told Rob when we had to find Hermione another home that if we ever got another dog it would be small dog. No more big dogs - ever! So after learning about this guy letting himself into people's homes Rob called a lady about beagle pups. I've been researching small dogs and beagles are really the only breed suited for our house with Gavin's special needs. So we went to a small town nearby *WAY* past bed time tonight and got a 7 week old beagle puppy. I've decided to name her Shelby. Truth be told, I wanted a mini pinscher or toy fox terrier but those breeds aren't well suited to Gavin's special needs etc. She's pretty cute. I'm just waiting for this to blow up in my face...

Blech

So tired. So frustrated. Completely overwhelmed. Shrink says panic attacks are coming from sensory overload.

Elliott Richard is doing much better. He's able to nurse and keep it down now. So we are very slowly working on solids again after yesterdays projectile vomiting at bed time. Hpefully all this dehydrating mess is finally behind us.

Gavin is staying with my mother to allow Rob and I to focus on Elliott Richard and recover ourselves. Plus it's a nice vaca for Gavin.

Posting from PSP.

Elliott Richard does not have the chicken pox like we thought. His ped said it was a reaction to his MMR vaccine coupled with the stomach flu. Then we came home and Elliott Richard couldn't keep anything down and was really pale. We decided to take him in to the ER. The ER said it was rotovirus~whatever that is. He was dehydrated but luckily we caught it before he needed to be admitted. Thank God for small favors.

Houston, we've got Pox.

Elliott Richard had his MMR and chicken pox vaccines on the 7th. Apparently it's very rare for a child to develop chicken pox even though it its a live form of the virus. And in keeping with tradition, Elliott Richard is very rare and has developed chicken pox. *sigh* This is the same child who simply had to come one month early, ended up in the hospital with his first case of the stomach flu, developed some yucky blister/absess on his left middle finger literally over night...Elliott Richard doesn't do anything the easy way. *sigh* I was really hoping he would avoid the whole pox ordeal but no such luck. Now we've got to watch him to make sure he doesn't spike a high fever, like Rob did after he had the MMR vaccine as a baby, or get dehydrated with the vomitting and stuff. :( Poor little guy. Plus how do you explain to a 13 month old not to scratch?

I still seriously need a vacation. Oh and Rob and I have to meet with Nick and Pam on the 24th again. Gavin's therapist wants one more meeting before court on the 26th. She wants to know who is willing to work together and who is out only for her...er...themselves. ;)

The Life of an Asperger's Parent

5:22:00 PM Posted In , , , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I love my son, Gavin. I love him with all my heart. Sometimes I just wish he were "normal". I wish I didn't have to hear "I just said 'T' 'B' 'Y'" like it was the most amazing thing ever. And then to hear that same sentence over and over and over again. It's just too much some days. Rob sent me an article on Autism written from the parent's POV but I can't bring myself to read it because it just hits too close to home.

I wish for the child I had at first. The sweet, sweet little boy who could make sense of the world. I long for the days before we had pediatric developmental neurologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and special schools. I long for a week without an appointment. My weeks will never be empty again. Gavin will always have one appointment or another. I long for time to myself. I long for a day without stimming - stimulating behaviors he uses to try and self-soothe...flapping his hands as if he's trying to take flight, repeatative clearing of his throat, saying the same sentence/word etc over and over again, tapping his fingers, bouncing/rocking in place etc.

Most people who know me will tell you that I am far from "normal" myself. And I usually loath normal. I am all about individuality, sense of self, marching to the beat of your own drummer...yahooie kabluie. As much as I hate to say this, I wish he could just be NORMAL. Sit quietly. Not respond to everything with a major melt-down and fit. Not pull his hair out over the smallest slight. No more stealing and hoarding food. No more "fighting" with the insurance company over specialists and services that he needs but most kids don't so they don't automatically cover them. (I put fighting in quotes because it's not so much a fight as an obstacle coarse trying to get through the red tape in the proper order.) No more guilt for playing favorites as a mother because honestly, Elliott Richard is just so much easier. No more guilt over things I'll never have answers for - did my actions those first 8 weeks of pregnancy (before I knew I was pregnant) cause this? If I had never married my ex-husband and Gavin had never seen the D.V. would he be this way? Did I not love him enough? Did I coddle him too much? WHAT IF?!

I want normal. I want to not have to schedule every moment of every day for the rest of my life. I want to not have to live by prescriptions and doctors appointments. I want to put him to bed and a half hour later he's asleep and he stays asleep until 8 or so the next morning. He doesn't wake up at 3 am with nightmares and play with toys quietly because he's up for the day but knows we need a few more hours sleep. I want a break. I want someone to care. I want someone to understand. I want someone to tell me it's not my fault and we aren't going crazy. I want to be someone else for a little while but every time I try to change my name - Gavin flips out and demands I become "mommy" again. *sigh*

Antibiotics should not make you sicker than the virus/bacteria they were prescribed to treat. Just an observation I wanted to share.

Sick

8:09:00 AM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »
I have the sinus infection that would.not.die! I feel horrible. I went to Aultman North yesterday for antibiotics and came home with horse pills. Apparently I waited too long and let things get a little out of hand. *shrugs* However, I don't remember agreeing to trade off the sinus headache that was threatening to blow the top of my head off for the nausea that could bring a yak to its knees. *sigh* Now it's Easter Sunday and Gavin expects me to be happy and upbeat and blah blah blah...I just don't have it. *blech*

On a side note, why when there is a mouse in my 103 year old house do my cats sleep round the clock and ignore it? But when there aren't any mice and life is quiet, do they stalk through the house as if every shadow hides hundreds of the little buggers? My cats are morons.

The Meeting

1:36:00 PM Posted In Edit This 0 Comments »
The meeting was...interesting. The panic attack didn't set in until after we were home and I tried to watch a repeat of "Judging Amy" involving a case of spousal abuse who threw a chair through a window...I fell apart at that point.

Nick claims he wants to do whatever is in Gavin's best interests even if that means Gavin never spends the night at his mother's house again. *insert confusion here* Rob and I are taking everything he said with a grain of salt at this point. As you can see my thoughts are still pretty scattered today.

I remember Rob confronting Nick on why he came to court twice the legal blood alcohol level two different times if things are so different. lol I kicked him (Rob). Gavin's shrink jumped in to redirect the conversation.

Pam kept asking "what about me?" and "what about what I want?" Nick kept reminding her that it wasn't about her. I wonder how long this new "sober super-dad" will stick around. He looked familiar that's for sure - he was the same guy I thought I was marrying 7 years ago. Needless to say, that's not the guy who showed up to the alter or the "marriage" afterwards. He was sporting a stylish dragon tattoo on his right upper arm. Along with a very stylish *insert sarcasm here* tongue piercing. (I've never understood the point in tongue rings.) I told them I want to form a team that acts in Gavin's best interests reguardless of what that happens to mean for any of us. Nick says he agrees. Pam not so much. She asked me if I was willing to drop all legal proceedings at this point and agree to never use lawyers again. Um...how about NO!! Sometimes I wonder if I have "idiot" or "born yesterday" tattooed on my forehead. She just wants lawyers gone because she thinks Nick is then free to be an alcoholic and drug addict without consequence. Or she knows something I don't know, which could be, and she can't fight the battle on more than one front. Either way, no dice.

Here we go...

2:34:00 PM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »
I'm meeting with Nick and Pam in 2.5 hours. The panic attacks are already starting. Think i'll go vomit now.

Sress Fractures

3:54:00 PM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »
That's what I feel like inside...like I've got many tiny little stress fractures that are weakening me over time and making things more difficult to manage. Gavin's therapist wants me to meet with Nick and Pam next week so that I can give them an idea of what life with Gavin is like. She said she gave them a snapshot, however, they still habor the dillusion that Gavin does not have Aspergers, OCD, or PTSD...that I'm making everything up to keep them apart. It all sounds so very Romeo and Juliet-esq doesn't it? The therapist assured them that Gavin's doctors are the best of the best in the area and that if I had been able to bulldoze one of them, I would not have been able to fool them all (2 therapists, 2 pediatricians, 1 pediatric-neurologist, 1 pediatric developmental-neurologist (apparently they are different), 2 teachers, 1 principal and soon an entire Autism team - in case you're curious and keeping track). So now I have to meet with them. The idea of which makes me more panicy than I can say. I have to do it for court. I have to do it for Gavin. I just wish the whole idea didn't give me panic attacks and huge migraines.

Exhaustion

11:55:00 AM Posted In , , , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I'm laying in bed. Trying to get some work done while the baby sleeps next to me. I'm absolutely exhausted. Partly because my migraine and tummy meds are kicking in and they make me sleepy. But mostly because the stress of life is seriously getting to me.

Gavin had his bi-weekly supervised visit last night with Nick and Pam. He's been seeing mice who he says are trying to eat him alive lately after the visits. Last night wasn't any different. He got dressed for school this morning while standing on his lower bunk so the mice couldn't eat his feet. :( Gavin also came home with two interesting pieces of information:

1.) Nick and Pam told him last night that "the lady judge said you get to spend the night at grandma's house soon". (That never happened. It's up to Gavin's new shrink (appointed by the courts) to make a determination as to what is in Gavin's best interests. But she said that they wouldn't get anything more than what they have until Nick starts taking things seriously (ie. completes his case plan and gets sober) and Pam stops making excuses for Nick. It will be a cold day before any of that ever happens.)

2.) Gavin had a karate promotion this morning. He apparently told them about it. Pam said she couldn't make it because she has to work. Nick promised to be there, which is a problem for many reasons. A.) He legally isn't allowed to see Gavin except at the church every other Sunday. B.) We all know that he wasn't going to show up. But he promised Gavin. And of course, he broke that promise.

Gavin has a difficult time making sense of the world in general to begin with - he doesn't need them making the waters muddier for him. I don't understand how they can be so heartless. I don't understand how they can play mind games with an Autistic 7 year boy. I just want to brain him.

Nick didn't show up, of course. Gavin's shrink said if he did we were to tell him to leave and have the police remove him if necessary. I was kind of wishing he would show up so that Gavin wouldn't be let down with yet another empty promise.

On a happier note, Gavin's promotion went off without a hitch. He received his orange belt and broke a 1 inch thick pine board with his bare hand!!!! :) It was SO COOL to see! Rob and I couldn't stop smiling. Rob took like 50 pictures and some video. I meant to take some pictures but forgot my camera. Not that Elliott Richard let me hand him over to his Grandmas for more than 5 seconds at a time. lol

Gavin is still at school and so far they haven't called and asked me to come and pick him up - his teacher and I agreed that if he had too difficult a time today after the lies yesterday and the let down today that she would call me and I could just come and pick him up. So I guess he's doing okay - at least I hope he is.

Asperger's

1:51:00 PM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I don't know who reads this journal. I don't think anyone does. Oh well, better for me I suppose. I belong to an Asperger's group because of Gavin, my 7 year old son...I don't post because I don't know what to say. I'm unsure how to start. Some of the members have Asperger's and others live with/love someone with Asperger's (a high functioning form of Autism).

Gavin is so anxious that he's seeing things and pulling his hair out. His Risperdal doesn't seem to be helping. I feel lost. Like I have no one to turn to for support. I can't even imagine how Gavin must feel. We had to shave his head. Our house is constantly filled with drama.

I have the worst migraine I've ever had from dealing with the daily drama. My pain meds have my thoughts all scattered and broken. I probably don't make ANY sense right now. *sigh* Never mind...

Stroke...stroke...stroke...

8:14:00 PM Posted In , Edit This 0 Comments »
One little word so many different meanings. Guys on the rowing teams call it out as they...well stroke. ;) lol However, I don't get to use it in a positive manner. My grandmother had surgery on Tuesday, March 6th. She had a few of her vertebrae fused together in an attempt to stop her crippling back pain. She was doing well until today about lunch time. The doctors and nurses were checking on her and she told them that she couldn't feel her left arm and leg. Then when they asked her to move them, she couldn't. She was preparing to be released and transferred to rehab tomorrow morning. Now she is camped out in the Stroke Ward for the foresee-able future. They are still running tests trying to figure out the extent of everything.

Ah...true love...
